Iranian Deputy Minister: The parties will negotiate the final agreement for the next 60 days

Negotiations on the final form of the deal between Iran and the United States will take place over a 60-day period that will begin after Tehran verifies that the US has fulfilled its obligations, including ending hostilities, lifting the naval blockade and releasing assets. This was stated by the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Iran, Kazem Gharibabadi, who was quoted by the Tasnim agency. Al-Jazeera television reported about it.

  • Negotiations on the final agreement will begin after Iran’s verification of the fulfillment of American obligations.
  • The Iranian and US delegations will meet in Switzerland on June 19 for negotiations.

According to Gharibabadi, the delegations of both countries will meet on June 19, the day of the planned official signing of the memorandum of understanding in Switzerland, to determine the next course of action and the framework of the upcoming negotiations.

Important points of the memorandum

Gharibabadi confirmed that Iran included all its “important positions” in the draft memorandum. The text of the document will be published after it is signed, he added.

“This memorandum of understanding does not mean that we do not trust the enemy. We will monitor the fulfillment of the obligations of the United States,” said Gharibabadi. He also announced an immediate and permanent end to the war and military operations on various fronts, including Lebanon.

Trump and Sharif announce deal

The achievement of the historic agreement between the United States and Iran was announced on Sunday evening on the X network by Pakistani Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif. Subsequently, US President Donald Trump also confirmed it on his Truth Social network. In his post, he said he allowed the Strait of Hormuz to be opened to commercial vessels without charging fees and ordered an immediate end to the US naval blockade of Iran.

Less than half an hour later, however, he published another post in which he wrote that the Strait of Hormuz will reopen only after the signing of the agreement with Iran on Friday.

“This magnificent agreement will bring peace and security to the entire region. Many presidents have tried to make peace with Iran and all before me have failed. For the first time, the leaders of the region have found a president who can help them achieve real peace. After Friday’s signing of the agreement, the strait will be opened for demining and oil will flow again for the region and the world at both ends!” Trump wrote.

US Vice President JD Vance said on Sunday that he plans to attend the signing of the peace agreement with Iran, but did not rule out the participation of Trump himself. “I certainly plan to be there, but it’s possible the president himself could be there,” Vance told Fox News.
