The driver of the tour bus apparently ignored the signs and crashed into an underpass under the railway in southern Bohemia. Several foreigners suffered minor injuries.
An unusual accident happened in the Czech Republic on Tuesday morning. In the village of Rybník in southern Bohemia, the bus driver crashed into a bridge over which a railway line runs. The vehicle in which the participants of the trip from Linz, Austria to Český Krumlov were traveling, got stuck in the underpass.
Due to the accident, they not only closed the road, but also interrupted railway operations. “The driver probably did not respect traffic signs. Several passengers were injured, two dozen were evacuated,” the police reported.
By evacuation bus to Český Krumlov
According to the fire department, 24 people were traveling in the bus, including the driver. All passengers were foreigners. “According to the information provided by the paramedics, four adults with minor abrasions were treated on the spot, they did not need to be transported to a medical facility,” South Bohemian firefighters explained.
They took fire-fighting measures on the spot, disconnected the batteries and provided temporary facilities for passengers. Later, they sent an evacuation bus for them, which will take them to Český Krumlov, where the tourists are going to continue their planned program.
When the infrastructure manager inspected the track, they resumed rail service. Road traffic under the bridge remains limited. Railwaymen should pull the vehicle out of the underpass using a recovery car with winches.
