IPTL: Fuel prices fall in June driven by decline in ethanol and diesel

Os Fuel prices fell again in the first half of Junepulled by ethanol e dieselaccording to the Edenred Ticket Log Price Index (IPTL), which consolidates transactions carried out at 21 thousand stations across the country. THE ethanol had the biggest reduction in the perioda drop of 4.98%, falling from R$4.62 in the first half of May to R$4.39 in the same period in June.

The drop occurs amid discussions by the federal government to increase the share of biofuel in gasoline.

The proposal is increase the mandatory mixture of anhydrous ethanol from 30% to 32% (E32), a topic that should be analyzed by the National Energy Policy Council (CNPE) in the coming weeks.

The objective is reduce dependence on imported fossil fuels e contribute to the decarbonization of the energy matrix. Furthermore, the increase in biofuel could alleviate the final cost of a liter of gasoline.

“The new drops in ethanol and diesel bring important relief to the pockets of Brazilian drivers in this first half of June. The highlight is ethanol, which in addition to registering the most significant decline at the pumps, maintains its strategic role. Even with the recent reduction in international oil prices, discussions to increase the share of biofuel in gasoline reinforce its role in protecting the country against future external fluctuations”, said in a note the director of Business Units at Edenred Mobilidade, Vinicios Fernandes.

According to him, ethanol is consolidated not only as an economic alternative for supply, but also as a key piece for Brazilian energy security and a more sustainable option.

Among other fuels, regular diesel fell 2.50%, from R$7.20 to R$7.02, and S-10 diesel fell 1.49%, from R$7.36 to R$7.25.
