The registration in the name of the former president (PL) during a blitz in Brasília, on Monday night (15), reduces the chances that his house arrest could be extended by the minister of the (Supreme Federal Court).
It expires on the 25th. The magistrate had been considering the possibility of renewing it for another 90 days, as he considered that the custody was being carried out without complications or signs of non-compliance, even in the midst of advances in coordination for the electoral campaign.
However, the pistol located with military officer Estácio Leite da Silva Filho, Bolsonaro’s bodyguard, raised an alarm in the minister, who . Estácio told the PM () that he was taking the gun for repairs due to a breakdown, and that he intended to return it this Tuesday (16).
Moraes ordered the lawyers to clarify “why, on the eve of the end of the 90-day period granted as humanitarian house arrest, the convict requested repairs to the weapons.” According to an interlocutor of the minister, the explicit mention of the end of the deadline is a bad sign for Bolsonaro.
Furthermore, the magistrate suggests that court orders may be being disregarded, since search procedures are mandatory for cars leaving Bolsonaro’s house, and the president’s gun was spotted with a third party 33 kilometers away from the condominium.
The PM responded to Moraes that it scans the cabins and trunks of vehicles leaving Bolsonaro’s residence, but that the cars used by security guards are parked on public roads and do not enter the garage, “which is why they are not subject to inspections.”
Violation of precautionary measures is an argument frequently used by Moraes to revoke benefits, as occurred on the occasions when Bolsonaro or when the former president tried to break the electronic ankle bracelet with an ankle bracelet, last November.
Moraes’ distrust also increased due to the security guard’s posture during the approach during the blitz. Military police officer Davi Evangelista Alves states that the pistol was on the floor of the car and that, when he noticed it, “the driver suddenly closed the window.”
Estácio also initially said that the weapon “was part of his functionality”, but the police officer says he did not find this record in the soldier’s documentation. It was only when asked again that he replied that the pistol belonged to Bolsonaro and that the equipment used to be inside the car.
Aides to two ministers aligned with Moraes claim that the extension of the home stay was studied by the rapporteur as a way of making a nod to Bolsonaro’s good behavior since the end of March, when the measure was granted so that the former president could recover from an illness, after a period of hospitalization.
This would allow the minister to renew the deadline even if Bolsonaro has improved his acute health condition. In the last three months, the former president had no complications that required urgent intervention. He only returned to the hospital once, for a problem unrelated to the respiratory issue.
The assessment of those around Moraes is that, if the defense’s explanation is not convincing, Bolsonaro could be sent away. The minister has already made it clear, in previous demonstrations, that the place is able to offer the former president all the necessary medical care, including in emergency cases, if necessary.
The most recent medical report, sent to the STF on Friday (12), points out that Bolsonaro continues to have hiccups, with a “considerable worsening” observed between the 9th and 10th of June, when it was necessary to administer extra doses of medication, “at the therapeutic safety limit”.
The medical team recommends tests to investigate chronic esophagitis, which the defense has already asked Moraes, who has not yet ordered. The report says that Bolsonaro has a stable cardiological condition, with blood pressure under control, but has balance fluctuations and complains of “fatigue on medium exertion”.
