A Sheet will hold a series of three seminars on the Brazilian Judiciary in August. The event, which will bring together authorities from the three Powers, lawyers and experts, is a partnership between the newspaper and -SP (São Paulo section of the Brazilian Bar Association) and is supported by the Anglo-Australian mining company BHP.
“The Judiciary in debate: integrity, efficiency and access to Justice” will always take place on Monday mornings, on the 10th, 17th and 24th of August, with live broadcast on YouTube of the Sheet. Complete coverage of the seminars will be available on all of the newspaper’s platforms.
The first two debates take place in the auditorium of the Sheet. The third, and last, will be at the OAB headquarters in São Paulo, both in the center of São Paulo. Information on registration to attend the seminars will be released in the coming days.
“Holding these seminars reinforces the relevance of the debate on Judiciary reform at a time of reflection on the improvement of democratic institutions”, states Leonardo Sica, president of OAB-SP.
According to him, “the initiative is in line with the work that the entity has carried out in formulating proposals and promoting discussions aimed at strengthening the efficiency, transparency and legitimacy of the Brazilian Justice system.”
Oscar Vilhena, professor at FGV Direito SP and columnist for Sheetacts as the curator of the three seminars. According to him, the fundamental purpose is to contribute to the improvement of the Brazilian Judiciary.
“Issues such as slowness, impartiality and legal certainty, but also transparency and integrity, will be addressed.”
The first day of the seminars (10) will have integrity and transparency as their main themes. Ethical conduct of judges, prosecutors and lawyers in the judicial process and judicial independence and politicization will be issues addressed in the debate tables, with mediation by journalists from Sheet.
The second day (17) will address legal certainty, precedents and quality of jurisprudential provision.
Excessive litigation and general diagnoses will be topics at the first table. A second round of debates will deal with the Judiciary in the business environment, including consensuality and legal security, as in the new Rio Doce agreement.
On the third and final day of the seminar, efficiency and access to Justice will be the highlighted themes. How to advocate and judge in times of AI will be the focus of one of the tables. Before that, Leonardo Sica, president of the OAB-SP, will present the proposal of the São Paulo section of the Order on the reform of the Judiciary.
