Operation against Jaques took PF chief by surprise – 06/18/2026 – Panel

The Lula government was taken by surprise with (18) investigating fraud and involving Senator Jaques Wagner (PT-BA).

The director general of the Federal Police, Andrei Rodrigues spoke with President Lula at around 8:30 am this Thursday (18), after the operation was launched. As a result, even the Palácio do Planalto was caught off guard.

According to people close to the director, he was aware of the operation that targeted the government leader when he was still with the president on a trip to the G7, in Switzerland, but he did not tell him anything.

In political circles there was already a fear that Master’s fraud would affect the PT in Bahia. This is because of CredCesta, a payroll benefit card offered to state employees that was acquired by banker Augusto Lima, also the target of this Thursday’s operation.

Later, the card became the Master bank’s gateway to operating in the payroll credit modality. Even in light of the investigations, the government claims that it was surprised by the developments of the action.
