The president (PT) arrives this Friday (19) in Minas Gerais, hoping to convince the former mayor of Contagem Marília Campos (PT) to run for state government. Willing to run for the Senate, she has resisted the advances of the president’s emissaries.
According to these allies, Lula has not yet given up on the idea. And the expectation is that this visit to Minas — dedicated to actions in the area of Health — will be used to make, at least, the first moves in this attempt to convince the PT member.
A wing of the PT still expresses a preference for Marília’s candidacy for the Senate. The party president himself, Edinho Silva, has already said publicly that this is the former mayor’s decision. But, in conversations, the president has expressed optimism about her performance in the state.
As shown by SheetLula arrives in Minas as governor of the state. And, unhappy with the lack of definition, for a decision.
If Marília resists the approach, it is most likely that Lula will decide to launch the businessman () or join the already launched pre-candidacy of the former mayor of Gabriel Azevedo (). The former attorney general of Minas Gerais Jarbas Soares (PSB) is out.
Josué is the son of businessman José Alencar, Lula’s deputy in his first two governments. He has a long-standing relationship with the head of the Executive and is one of the main bridges between the PT member and the private sector. He was also president of Fiesp (Federation of Industries of the State of São Paulo).
According to the president’s allies, Gabriel Azevedo is currently the one who would have the greatest chance of heading the alliance supporting Lula in the state. But he still faces resistance within the party. The president has until the end of July to consolidate his state platforms.
The Minas Gerais electorate is the second largest in the country. A good performance in the state is essential for the President of the Republic’s re-election plans.
