Journalists interested in expanding their knowledge about science coverage can sign up for the free workshop “What every journalist needs to know about radiopharmaceuticals in diagnostics and therapies”, promoted by in partnership with , based at. The meeting will be held online on June 30th.
The activity will present fundamental concepts about radiopharmaceuticals, substances that combine radioactivity and pharmacological action and are used to diagnose and treat tumors with greater precision. Considered one of the most promising areas of nuclear technology, the technology has gained ground in the development of new strategies to combat cancer.
The event features the participation of nuclear doctor Bárbara Juarez Amorim, coordinator of the Nuclear Medicine Service at Hospital de Clínicas da Unicamp, who will explain the concept of theranostics, an approach that integrates diagnosis and therapy in the same treatment strategy.
Also participating will be onco-hematologist Carmino Antonio de Souza, professor at the Faculty of Medical Sciences at Unicamp and director of CancerThera, who will present an overview of the incidence and challenges of cancer in Brazil. Celso Dario Ramos, professor at the same faculty and deputy director of the center, will address the new diagnostic and treatment possibilities developed with the use of radiopharmaceuticals.
