Top Viennese chemist Peter Schuster dies


The internationally renowned chemist Peter Schuster died last Sunday, his family announced. Schuster, born on March 7, 1941 in Vienna, studied chemistry and physics at the University of Vienna and received his doctorate sub auspiciis in 1967. With his interest in the synthesis of organic compounds using quantum mechanical calculations, which was the subject of his doctoral thesis, he moved to Göttingen to the Max Planck Institute for Biophysical Chemistry. Its director had received the Nobel Prize in Chemistry just a year earlier.
