A survey of the Young Pan in data from the Senate Transparency Portal shows that the Senator Jaques Wagner (PT-BA) received R$337,000 in daily allowances for official trips between 2019 and June this year, value lower than that alleged by the parliamentarian to justify the US$ 55 thousand in cash found by the PF in a hotel safe in Brasília on Thursday (18).
having accumulated “approximately US$70,000 in daily allowances for international travel” since 2019. At the current dollar exchange rate, the R$ 337 thousand registered by the Senate is equivalent to around US$ 65 thousand, value lower than that mentioned by the senator and which includes all official trips, without distinction between national and international destinations.
The money was found during searches carried out in the morning in the room occupied by the senator in a hotel in the federal capital, as part of the 9th phase of Operation Compliance Zero. In addition to the daily allowances, Senate records indicate that Wagner received another R$ 147 thousand in reimbursement for tickets in the same period, totaling R$484 thousand in official trips between 2019 and 2025.
The year with the highest daily expenditure was 2025, with R$74 thousand. In 2020, during the pandemic, the value was zero. The official data, however, does not discriminate which trips had an international destination, which prevents a direct comparison with the value cited by the parliamentarian.
Wagner also said that he bought foreign currency at Banco do Brasil, where he maintains an account, to pay for trips abroad. “I have nothing to hide about this money,” said the senator. He also denied any relationship with businessman Daniel Vorcaro, controller of Banco Master, investigated in the same operation.
Operation Compliance Zero investigates suspected irregularities involving the financial market and parliamentarians. Wagner is leader of the Lula government in the Federal Senate.
