Even ineligible, Tarcísio’s ally maintains Eduardo Bolsonaro as a substitute for the Senate

State deputy André do Prado (PL-SP) confirmed this Saturday (20) that former federal deputy Eduardo Bolsonaro (PL-SP) will remain as the first alternate on his ticket to the Senate for São Paulo.

The statement was made during the launch of the pre-candidacy in Guarulhos and comes a few days after Eduardo’s conviction by the Federal Supreme Court (STF).

“He continues as my first substitute,” said Prado when asked about the political future of former president Jair Bolsonaro’s son. According to the parliamentarian, the group’s expectation is that there is still room to legally challenge the decision that removed Eduardo from direct competition for a seat in the Senate.

The confirmation ends speculation about a possible replacement on the ticket after the . Due to the decision of the First Panel of the STF, Eduardo received a prison sentence, fine and , which made his own candidacy unfeasible.

During the event, André do Prado stated that the Senate seat would originally be occupied by Eduardo Bolsonaro. “This position was supposed to be his,” he declared, thanking the former parliamentarian for the support he received in building his candidacy.

Despite keeping Eduardo as a substitute, Prado ruled out any possibility of giving up his mandate if elected. The statement seeks to rule out interpretations that the composition would serve for a future transfer of the seat to the ally.

The launch of the ticket brought together leaders from the PL and the São Paulo right, including the governor of São Paulo, Tarcísio de Freitas, and senator Flávio Bolsonaro.
