A 5.9 magnitude earthquake hit parts of Pakistan and Afghanistan this Saturday, 27th, authorities reported. There were no immediate reports of damage or casualties.
The epicenter was located in the Hindu Kush region of Afghanistan, according to the Pakistan Meteorological Department. The tremor was felt in Islamabad, as well as in the eastern province of Punjab and the northwestern province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, which borders Afghanistan. There were also reports of the tremor in the Pakistan-administered region of Kashmir.
Anwar Shahzad, spokesman for the Provincial Disaster Management Authority, said initial assessments identified no reports of casualties or damage.
A 7.6 magnitude earthquake in 2005 killed tens of thousands of people in Pakistan and Kashmir, a Himalayan mountain region disputed by Pakistan and India.
