Frenchman Hervé Renard, coach of the Tunisian national team, declared this Friday (26) that he is free to decide his next destination after the elimination of the Carthage Eagles, who did not win any points in the tournament.
“I came for this World Cup. Now I’m free to choose the best project for the future,” Renard told AFP, without specifying whether the Tunisian Football Federation had offered him a contract renewal. “We’ll see,” he added.
Contacted by AFP this Friday, a spokeswoman for the Tunisian Football Federation indicated that Renard’s continued leadership of the team will be analyzed in the coming days.
According to him, it will take time to evaluate the results of the World Cup, which could take two to three weeks, and during this period a decision will be made about the coach.
“I was very well received in a very difficult context. I was aware of the challenge, but even in difficult situations like this, we learn. It was a very valuable experience,” Renard told AFP.
Ten days ago, following Tunisia’s stunning 5-1 defeat to Sweden in their World Cup opener, then coach Sabri Lamouchi was sacked and replaced by Renard for the remainder of the tournament.
The French coach was unable to reverse the team’s situation, which lost 4-0 to Japan and ended its participation on Thursday (25) with a 3-1 defeat to the Netherlands.
