The governor of São Paulo, Tarcísio de Freitas (Republicans), stated this Saturday (27) that he has given top priority to security forces in identifying and arresting those responsible for shooting Rota first lieutenant Ronickson Pimentel dos Santos in São Caetano do Sul, in ABC Paulista.
In a post on social media, Tarcísio said he received the news “with deep indignation” and expressed solidarity with the police officer’s family.
“I have given our security forces top priority in identifying and arresting those responsible,” wrote the governor.
According to the Military Police, Ronickson Pimentel was shot several times on Avenida Goiás during an attempted murder on Saturday morning.
The police officer was rescued by rescue teams and later transported by Águia helicopter for medical care. To date, the perpetrators of the crime have not been located.
In the publication, Tarcísio also stated that attacks against police officers represent a threat to society as a whole.
“Anyone who attacks the life of a police officer attacks the entire society and will answer for this with the fullest extent of the law,” he declared.
The governor also reinforced his speech on combating crime in the state.
“In São Paulo, we will not take a step back in combating crime,” he added.
Ronickson Pimentel is the brother of Eloá Pimentel, victim of one of the best-known criminal cases in the country’s recent history. In 2008, at the age of 15, Eloá was murdered after spending around 100 hours in private prison in Santo André, in ABC Paulista.
The case mobilized the country and received wide coverage in the press. The kidnapper, Lindemberg Alves, held Eloá and other teenagers hostage for several days before the apartment was invaded by the Special Tactical Actions Group (Gate). During the action, Eloá was hit by gunfire and died the following day.
The Civil Police are investigating the circumstances of the attack against the Rota lieutenant.
