The CNMP (National Council of ) denied the last appeal presented by the prosecutor of the Amapá MP João Paulo Furlan and scheduled the trial that could expel him from the body for August 18th.
João Paulo Furlan has been removed from his position since the beginning of the year and is facing an Administrative Disciplinary Process. In Friday’s session (26), the CNMP decided to maintain the prosecutor’s removal and continue the process.
He is the brother of Dr. Furlan (PSD), former mayor of Macapá and pre-candidate for the government of Amapá. He was removed from office after an investigation revealed the involvement of the prosecutor
The suspicion is that he was involved in buying votes and irregularly transporting voters to benefit the campaign in which his brother ended up being elected mayor.

The deadline for presenting the final arguments and carrying out additional steps has been opened. After these steps, the council has already scheduled the judgment on the merits of the case for the next session of the collegiate, scheduled for August 18th.
This is when the plenary will decide whether João Paulo Furlan will remain on the staff of the Public Ministry or whether he will be expelled from the body.
Even though he was removed from office, João Paulo Furlan took over in the state.
In a note, the prosecutor stated that the case had already been archived, but was reopened in an election year and without a prior hearing. And he said that the decision contrary to the position of the commission appointed by the rapporteur, suspending the PAD and revoking the removal, was surprising.
“The advisor appointed by the Senate, Gustavo Sabóia, raised a point of order to determine that the PAD be judged in the following session, although there were still pending proceedings. In four months of action, this was the second point of order presented by him, and both occurred exclusively in my PAD”, he stated.
João Paulo Furlan said that the facts suggest that the process was used by factors that go beyond the legal plane. “However, I trust that the final judgment will observe exclusively the evidence, due legal process and the impartiality expected from the CNMP,” he said.
