The Workers’ Party will hold on August 2nd, in São Paulo, the convention that will formalize the candidacy for re-election of the president (PT). The PT member will have the vice-president (PSB) on its ticket.
The 1st round is scheduled for October 4, 2026. Possible 2nd round will be held on October 25. Lula will seek a 4th term, which will be a record.
In 2022, the PT member obtained 60,345,999 votes (50.90% of valid votes) in the 2nd round. Lula’s main opponent, the then president (PL), received 58,206,354 votes (49.10% of valid votes).
The PT wants the maximum amount authorized by the Superior Electoral Court. The values have not been defined, but the expectation is that the allowed resources from 2022 will be maintained in 2026.
For each name in the race for President, the total was R$ 133.4 million – the amount takes into account the 2 rounds. Here is the limit established in 2022:
- 1st round – R$88.94 million;
- 2nd round – R$44.44 million, if there is a dispute.
In 2022, Lula will have R$130 million available in the elections. The value was a little lower than the R$132 million it could spend.
The 30 parties, together, received R$4.9 billion from the Electoral Fund in 2026. It is the same amount reserved in 2022.
Of this amount, the PT received R$615 million – more than the R$499.6 million in 2022. It is the 2nd highest value: only from the PL, with R$881.7 million.
