At issue is the departure of Duarte Gomes, former technical director of arbitration, allegedly in a split with the president of the Arbitration Council.
A Portuguese Football Federation (FPF) reported, this Wednesday, through a , that the facts alleged by Duarte Gomes to justify his dismissal, they were sent to the Public Prosecutor’s Office.
In view of this case, the Justice Council will meet this Wednesday to analyze the disciplinary report presented by the president of the Arbitration Council, Luciano Gonçalves.
“Having learned, on June 26th, of the formal report sent by the President of the Arbitration Council to the Council of Justice regarding the reasons given by the former Technical Director of Arbitration for his dismissal from the position he held, the Presidents of the Governing Bodies of the Portuguese Football Federation immediately sent the facts reported to the Public Prosecutor’s Office”, says the statement.
In the same note, the Federation adds that the other presidents of the different corporate bodies “await the conclusions of the steps to be carried out by the competent authorities, with the speed that the matter requires”.
According to the newspaper, Duarte Gomes resigned last week from his position as National Technical Director of Arbitration. The passage through the federative structure was brief, lasting around a year.
The former referee joined the Portuguese Football Federation in the summer of 2025, shortly after Pedro Proença succeeded Fernando Gomes as president of the body.
“I hereby inform you that I have taken the decision to cease my duties as National Technical Director of Refereeing at the Portuguese Football Federation. I do so with a deep sense of gratitude for the privilege of having worked with you, even if for a short period”, he said in an email sent to the referees.
The former referee also left a message of thanks to everyone who was part of his professional career.
“To everyone, I would like to express my sincere gratitude for your collaboration, friendship and trust. I wish you much happiness personally, family and professionally”, he concluded.
