Rwanda and the US are negotiating to receive deported migrants, talks continue

Negotiations between Rwanda and the US about migrants are in the initial phase, confirmed by the Minister of Foreign Affairs.

Rwanda and the United States are at an early stage of negotiations on the adoption of the US migrants, said Rwanda Foreign Minister Olivier Nduhungirehe. Rwanda has already concluded a similar agreement to receive deported migrants with Britain, which they canceled last year. TASR reports this according to Monday’s report AFP.

“These reports are true, we are negotiating with the government of the United States of America,” Nduhungirehe said on Sunday for state television. He stressed, however, that the interviews “are not yet definitive to determine what direction it would go”. Given the agreement with the United Kingdom, he declared that such an agreement “is nothing new to us”.

Trump’s anti -immigration policy

“I would say that negotiations are at an early stage, but we continue to talk about this problem of migrants,” the Minister added without further details. At the request for a statement for AFP, he stated that it would provide it after the end of the negotiations.

US President Donald Trump’s government is pushing for anti -immigration policy and trying to force immigrants to leave the US. One of the ways is agreements to send them to third countries. Washington has already concluded such an agreement with Salvador, where he deported several dozen Venezuelans.
