Moscow (Reuters)-Kremlin, questioned on Monday (05) about a possible meeting between US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin, Saudi Arabia, said a meeting is necessary, but Putin has no trip to the planned Middle East.
Trump, who pledged to quickly negotiate the end of the war in Ukraine shortly after taking office, said over the weekend that he and his advisers had “very good discussions” about Russia and Ukraine in recent days.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov, questioned by reporters about Trump’s comments that he could consider the possibility of meeting with Putin during a trip to Saudi Arabia this month, said the Kremlin chief has no scheduled trip there, but that “this meeting is clearly in everyone’s mouth.”
“And in many ways we think it is certainly necessary,” Peskov said. “It needs to be prepared properly and requires efforts at various levels of experts,” including continuous contacts between Moscow and Washington, he added
“But so far there are no specific details about it.”
Trump will travel to Saudi Arabia, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates this month to participate in a summit with Gulf leaders, Axios said.
