A few days after, the government of President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva (PT) made another change in the Esplanade of Ministries – this time in charge of the Ministry of Women, currently led by Cida Gonçalves.
On the morning of Monday (5), social worker Marcia Lopes declared to the newspaper S.Paulo Folha who accepted the invitation to take over the folder. According to her, the appointment would have already been communicated to Cida Gonçalves by President Lula himself last Friday (2), in a conversation made moments before the official announcement of the resignation of Carlos Lupi.
Márcia Lopes has a long trajectory in the PT and the public service. He was Minister of Social Development and Hunger Fighting between 2010 and 2011, during the Dilma Rousseff administration, as well as acting as executive secretary of the same folder from 2004 to 2008, in Lula’s second term. Paranaense and teacher, she played the City of Londrina in 2012, taking third place.
In 2022, Márcia Lopes joined the government transition team, coordinating the Social Assistance Technical Group. She is also sister of Gilberto Carvalho, former minister of the presidential secretary and one of Lula’s main political counselors since the 1980s.
The exchange in charge of the Ministry of Women happens in a moment of reorganization of the government’s political base, focusing on the recovery of confidence in areas involved in scandals and the strengthening of social folders, amid pressure of movement by greater female representativeness and the resumption of public policies with gender clipping.
