Former coach of Tyson and Holyfield dies at 71 – 07/30/2025 – Sport

Former Boxing coach of Evander Holyfield and Mike Tyson, Tommy Brooks died on Tuesday at age 71 after a battle against cancer.

Brooks became an amateur American champion in 1975 and built a cartel of seven wins and three defeats in the professional category, before starting his career as a coach.

He gained notoriety in the middle of training Evander Holyfield between the 1990s and 2000s, when the heavyweight beat rival Mike Tyson twice over the ring.

Brooks began training Tyson himself in a sequence, in partnership that lasted until 2002, when Iron Mike was defeated by Lennox Lewis.

He also worked with the Ukrainian brothers Wladimir and Vitali Klitschko, former heavyweight champions, and English David Price, bronze medal at Beijing Games in 2008.
