Right Governors plan meetings to unify – 08/08/2025 – Power

Right governors plan meetings to unify the group, with criticism of the performance of the (Supreme Court) and the government, and will meet next Tuesday (12) with party presidents.

According to the governor of, (), the next step will be to look for the presidents of the House, Hugo Motta (Republicans), and ((União Brasil-AP), and make himself available to the federal government for what he called dialogue.

Ibaneis was the host of the first meeting on Thursday (7), which was attended by eight other governors: (Republicans),; Romeu Zema (Novo), from Minas Gerais; Ronaldo Caiado (Union), from Goiás; Mouse Jr (PSD), from Paraná; Jorginho Mello (PL), Santa Catarina; Claudio Castro (PL), from Rio de Janeiro; Mauro Mendes (União Brasil), from Mato Grosso; and Wilson Lima (Union), from Amazonas.

The first four are pre-candidates or quoted to the Planalto Palace next year.

According to reports, the 2026 election did not go into the agenda, but their idea is to unify the political group. Governor Mauro Mendes said he told participants that Brazil’s next president was at the meeting. And that if it is not, and the left continues in power, those responsible were there too.

“Impossible union in the first round. Convergence only in the second round,” he told Sheet Caiado, asked if the movement would already be an attempt to approach electoral approach.

At the end of the meeting, only three spoke to the press: Tarcisio, Caiado and Mendes. The others said they had commitments.

The governor of São Paulo spoke of “institutional harmony” to criticize the Supreme Court. He argued that “powers have roles in mitigating the crisis” and “have to contribute to fluttering the crisis”, alluding to house arrest of former President Jair Bolsonaro (PL).

Prior to attending the meeting at the Ibaneis house, Tarcisio visited Bolsonaro, with whom he stayed for about two hours. Journalists said only that he is “serene”.

The main objective of the meeting was to deal with what they call the institutional crisis, in a critique of the Supreme action, and the tariff of the United States to Brazilian products, where they say they see lack of action by the Brazilian government.

Federal Deputy Eduardo Bolsonaro (PL-SP), who is in the United States working with the Trump government authorities for sanctions, did not discuss the conversation of the governors, even though state managers have criticism of their performance.

The only two right-wing governors who went to the pockets of last Sunday, post-tariface and application of financial sanction to Alexandre de Moraes, from the Supreme Court (STF), were Jorginho de Mello and Claudio Castro.

“You don’t have to be an expert to understand the scenario that most common people of common sense do not agree with someone in our country going there to articulate against our country. [Eduardo] He says he is inserted, “said Mendes.

But then he says that the main criticism, and the goal of the meeting, is to the federal government. “President Lula cannot give up insisting on a negotiation with the US to minimize the effect of tariff. Everything that has been done so far has been articulation through Americans or the business world,” said Mendes.

“On the other hand, there are great confusion of the Supreme, the House and the Senate. It is expected that this state of power will be respected, so that Congress can fulfill its role, to deliberate all the agenda,” he added.

Ibaneis said there is a lack of independence from Parliament to vote on the agenda he wants. “Today there is a veiled dictatorship of the executive with the judiciary. It is not even a criticism of the STF, it is the way it is working,” he said.

Governors have a speech that Congress is not voting on the guidelines it needs because the Supreme prevents. When asked what these projects would be, they cite the bill that grants amnesty to the convicts in the coup attacks of 8 January 2023 as an example.

The proposal is in the House and is the main demand for the opposition, which, amotinated, prevented the work of the house this week. President Hugo Motta signaled that he would not guide the proposal, but Jair Bolsonaro’s PL insists. The former president, who has been under house arrest since last Monday, could benefit from the proposal, but there is resistance between the House leaders.

The result of the Bolsonarist riot was to have driven the discussion of proposals to shield politicians against investigations and criminal complaints – projects embraced by Centrão, which has members targeting inquiries in the Court, especially about the use of parliamentary amendments.
