The funeral of the Brazilian samba master, Arlindo Cruz, will be held this Saturday (9) on the block of the Serrano Empire, in the North Zone of Rio de Janeiro. The ceremony starts at 18h and will be open to the public. The information was confirmed by the sambista’s family on social networks.
The burial will take place on Sunday (10) at Jardim da Saudade Cemetery, in Sulacap, at 11am.
In an interview with CNN, the president of the Serrano Empire, Flávio França, regretted the death of the sambista and made the court available for the funeral. Arlindo Cruz had a special connection with the Serrano Empire, his heart samba school. Throughout his career, he composed 12 sambas that the association took to the avenue in the Rio Carnival parades.
The singer and songwriter Arlindo Cruz died on Friday (8), at 66 years. Arlindo Cruz was weakened and in recent days received care from the medical team and the family.
The sambista also dealt with the sequelae of a hemorrhagic stroke (stroke) since 2017.
In addition, he had an autoimmune disease, was tracheostomized and had gastrostomy (GTT), ie, wearing a dietary probe.
Also on Friday (8), the City of Rio de Janeiro decreed official mourning of three days for the death of Arlindo Cruz and said it will give its name to the future Parque Piedade, in the North Zone, as a form of tribute.
