Despite the classification for the quarterfinals of Libertadores, the environment behind the scenes of São Paulo is undergoing a certain turbulence. On the eve of the duel against Atletico Nacional in the competition, a message leaked from a group of WhatsApp caused discomfort in the tricolor board.

The situation began after a draw against Sport 2-2 last Saturday (16). São Paulo’s communication director, José Eduardo Martins, sent a private message in the official press group that accompanies the club.

In the text, he wrote: “I will leak that Boca wanted to lend Henry for free and the president held.” The statement, deleted shortly after shipping, was “prime” and lit the behind -the -scenes alert.

The player in question is Henrique Carmo, striker formed at the club base. On the day of the message, he had entered the match against Sport and had a decisive role in the team’s reaction, which sought the draw after losing 2-0.

Board acts to contain crisis in São Paulo

In that message, the name “Boca” is a nickname used to refer to Carlos Belmonte, São Paulo’s soccer director, known among the fans as “Boca de Farofa”.

With the game against Atletico Nacional coming, the board acted to alleviate the impacts of the situation. The goal was to avoid an internal crisis that could harm the club on the eve of one of the most important games of the season.

With this, the version presented by José Eduardo Martins as justified for the message was that it was an internal game between colleagues, accidentally sent to the press group.

Political situation in São Paulo

With the end of Julio Casares’ mandate ending at the end of 2026, political movements within São Paulo already take shape. Carlos Belmonte is one of the most rated names as a possible successor, given the central role in the current management and influence he has behind the scenes of the club.

On the other hand, Casares would not yet have been supported by a possible candidacy from Belmonte. On the contrary, according to the specialized press the current president is more inclined to support another candidate, Márcio Carlomagno, Club CEO and right -hand man.

Thus, internally, the message was seen as a strategic movement to wear out Belmonte and make room for a new name in the tricolor electoral scenario.
