For 2026 elections, Wellington Dias says the government is “closing partnerships with various religious denominations”
The Minister of Social Development, (PT-PI), told the magazine Look that democracy is at stake in the 2026 elections and that, for the PT (Workers Party), it will be important “ensure a robust center running along with the left”. A this Friday (22.ago.2025).
“In recent months, I notice that there has been a change from the past election of 2022, when the far right was still very strong and the left was a little isolated. Thanks to Lula’s ability, we managed to make an alliance with the center, represented by the vice president’s entrance [PSB]. And this spectrum is increasingly distant from the far right class, which is good for the country”said the minister.
Dias said it bets that, in early 2026, from the party window, there will be a “Reorganization of the board”giving PT opportunity to expand its alliances nationally.
In early August, the president (PT) met with Gilberto Kassab, president of the PSD, in the palace of Alvorada. Outside the official agenda, the meeting reinforced the approach of the Planalto with center parties, the so -called centrão.
The acronym of the former mayor of São Paulo is one of the most influential in Congress, with 44 deputies and 15 senators, as well as 3 ministers in the Lula administration: Alexandre Silveira (Minas and Energy), André de Paula (Fisheries) and Carlos Fávaro (agriculture).
The PSD is one of the acronyms that has moved away from the PT. In addition to conflicts with guidelines of interest to the government, the party has 2 presidential candidates for 2026: the governors of Rio Grande do Sul, and from Paraná.
HAS LookDias also commented on the attempt to get closer to the evangelical churches. “We are closing partnerships with various religious denominations, which allows us to achieve, through its leaders, places where the government is not enough, such as slums and more distant places.”said the minister.
In an interview with Poder360Wellington Dias had already advocated a larger participation of government parties in the government.
“I argue, I say that, for the Brazilian conjuncture, we should build a path here that has a part of this block more to the center, here has a denomination of centrão. There are other things in the middle, but thus are the parties that advocate democracy, which defend a country with a condition whose goal is the development, economic development, but also social development”the minister declared at the time.
