Donald Trump has warned the BRICS countries against the introduction of 100 percent tariffs if they take steps that threaten the dominance of the dollar

He threatened to impose 100 percent import tariffs.

Newly elected US President Donald Trump has warned that he will impose 100 percent import tariffs on BRICS member states if they continue with activities that threaten the position of the US dollar. It was reported by the AFP agency.

He wants states to pledge not to support another currency

“We demand that they pledge not to create any new currency within BRICS, nor support another currency to replace the mighty US dollar. Otherwise they will face 100 percent tariffs,” Trump wrote on his social network Truth Social. BRICS is an economic grouping whose name comes from the first letters of the founding states – Brazil, Russia, India and China (BRIC) and later also South Africa, which joined in 2010. From 2024, Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) joined the group.

Trump was responding to the other BRICS summit, which was held in Kazan, Russia, at the end of October. During the summit, member states also discussed strengthening their currencies and non-dollar transactions.

Donald Trump, after his re-election as US president, made it clear that he will once again promote his “America First” agenda. This includes the introduction of additional duties on the import of products from abroad.

He has now turned his attention to the BRICS grouping. “If the BRICS states continue with their plans, they can count on the fact that they will no longer sell their products on the wonderful American market. They can find another fool,” Trump added, warning that “the BRICS have no chance of replacing the US dollar in international trade, and any country that tries to do so can say goodbye to the US (as a trading partner)”.
