The 57 -year -old Greek expatriate Mercury Psillak was attacked since he surfed a beach in Sydney in the event of losing his life to irrelevant bleeding.
The tragic event unfolded between Dee Why and Long Reef, about 100 meters from the lifeguard, with rescue workshops reaching shortly after 10am.
The 57 -year -old resident of Northern Beaches entered the water at 9:30 with a group of friends, before being dragged by friends and eyewitnesses after the attack. Psillakis lost both legs to the attack and despite the efforts of the rescuers he was unable to keep alive.
“Everyone knows the Psillakis family, they always live around here and it’s really a big part of the community,” one resident of the Daily Telegraph said.

Psillakis and his twin brother, Mike, lived in Dee why children were described by members of the community as “warm and hospitable”. His sudden death left the local community of Northern Beaches. Mike is a renowned board manufacturer and runs the well -known Psillakis Surfboards operation, while Mercury was a member of many Community groups and clubs, such as the Long Reef Boardriders Association.
“It’s one of those accidents that happen very rarely,” said inspector inspector John Duncan.
Mark Morgenthal, who was in the water at the time of the attack, told Sky News that the shark was one of the greatest he had ever seen, appreciating his length about 6 meters. “He was screaming” I don’t want to bite me, I don’t want to bite me, don’t bite me, “and I saw the dock of the shark emerge, it was huge,” Morgenthal said.
Officers from the Northern Beaches area closed the beach and cooperate with experts from the Ministry of Primary Industries to determine the species of shark.
