Police announced on Tuesday (9), the arrest of a suspect of introducing tear gas at Heathrow airport, which caused the temporary closure of Terminal 4 check-in area. The check-in area of the main international airport was evacuated for about three hours on Monday afternoon, while emergency services were investigating a “possible incident with dangerous materials”.
“After urgent investigations, a 57-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of firearm possession (spray CS) and for causing a public discomfort,” said a spokesman for the London Metropolitan Police.
After inspecting the area, “police officers located a can of what is believed to be CS gas spray. It is believed that this substance caused a reaction to people inside the airport,” police said.
