After the indictment of , speculation increased on the networks regarding who would be the right-wing representative in the 2026 presidential elections.
Among the names circulating is that of the governor of , (Republicans), that of the governor of Goiás, (), that of the former first lady () and also the businessman ().
Among these names, Caiado has stood out both for his speeches and positions and for his demonstration of interest in contesting the election. An ally of Bolsonaro, the governor of Goiás took social media by storm last week.
Last Tuesday (26), he sanctioned a law that grants the title of honorary citizen to the minister of . In messaging groups, the event caused a strong reaction in right-wing groups that began to attack Caiado, with the peak of messages being reached on Wednesday (27).
These attacks come after a portion of the right supports the governor’s nomination for President. On Saturday (23), Caiado was at a Conib (Israeli Confederation of Brazil) event and explained his intention to launch his .
At the same event, Caiado commented on Bolsonaro’s indictment by the Federal Police, stating that “life goes on” and criticized the government’s lack of proposals. When asked about his relationship with Bolsonaro and possible conflict in the race for President, he highlighted that he has always supported him and that he has no problems with the former president.
Caiado’s speeches had repercussions in the public messaging groups analyzed by Palver.
On Sunday (24), mentions of the governor of Goiás saw strong growth as a result of both supporters who shared messages of support and right-wing groups who reproduced Caiado’s speeches out of context, as if he were demonstrating support for Bolsonaro.
After granting the title of honorary citizen to Dino, the support received by the governor of Goiás online turned into criticism and offense. Most of the messages were ironic in tone regarding his intention to be the representative of the right in the 2026 presidential elections.
In , most of the messages regarding the topic were sent by users identified by Palver as having robotic behavior. Caiado was called a communist, a scammer and “clueless” by users, who also brought up Marçal’s name as a possible representative of the right.
One of the videos circulated on WhatsApp features federal deputy Gustavo Gayer (PL-GO) mentioning the survey released by Paraná Pesquisas in which Caiado scores with 3.7% of voting intentions for president of the Republic.
According to the deputy, Caiado’s poor performance is due to the title granted to Dino. However, the date on which the research interviews were carried out was before the law was enacted.
If he maintains his decision to run, Caiado could compete with a candidate nominated by Bolsonaro and his allies.
In the municipal elections there was already a preview of this clash, in which Caiado emerged victorious by supporting the elected mayor Sandro Mabel (União Brasil) in Goiânia while Bolsonaro supported Fred Rodrigues (PL).
In the national election, however, the capillarity of the Bolsonarist right on social media makes the undertaking quite challenging for the governor of Goiás.
