According to the company, the decision will allow the Frenchman to participate in the F-1 post-season test, also in Abu Dhabi; the driver will be able to represent the colors of Haas
The management surprised this Monday (2) by announcing that it will dismiss the French driver earlier than planned. The team will have the Australian newcomer in the last race of the season, next weekend. Ocon had been leaving the French team since June, when it was announced that he would not renew his contract, which was to be formally terminated at the end of the year. Weeks later, the 28-year-old driver was confirmed as Haas’ starter for the 2025 season to form a pair with Oliver Bearman.
During this break, Alpine confirmed that it would keep Frenchman Pierre Gasly among its starters and announced Jack Doohan, son of Mick Doohan, star of the 90s. This Monday, the French team announced the anticipation of Doohan’s debut as the team’s starting driver, already for the test in the United Arab Emirates. According to Alpine, the decision will allow Ocon to participate in the F-1 post-season test, also in Abu Dhabi, after the GP. The Frenchman will be able to represent the colors of Haas. Alpine, in turn, confirmed that Doohan will also be in the test.
“I think this decision comes from all sides. I think you could say it’s good to have Jack at the beginning, I think you could say from Esteban’s side it’s good moving forward. I think that suits everyone, so I think the discussion was quite natural, actually, and I think Esteban has been a big part of this team too and on both sides it suits each other,” said Alpine boss Oliver Oakes. After the weekend, the drivers are already looking ahead to the Abu Dhabi GP, which opens on Friday (6), with the first free practice session scheduled for 6:30 am, Brasília time.
