While the authorities worked intensely to find the person who murdered Charlie Kirk at the University of Vale de Utah last week, a 22 -year -old – now accused of the crime – exchanged text messages with his love partner and recognized that he was the shooter, revealed court documents.
According to investigators, Tyler Robinson fired a single shot from the roof of a building overlooking the outdoor space where Kirk spoke to about three thousand people on September 10. Then he exchanged messages with his partner, with whom he lived near St. George, in Utah, about 387 kilometers southwest of the campus.

Tyler Robinson told his partner to look under the keyboard in his home. There was a note written: “I had the opportunity to eliminate Charlie Kirk and I will enjoy it.” After showing shock, the partner asked Robinson if he was the shooter. Robinson replied, “It’s me, sorry.”
Apparently, the partner never sought the authorities with this information. Robinson remained a fugitive until the next night, when his parents acknowledged that he was the person of a photo released by police during the search. They helped organize Robinson’s peaceful surrender.
Authorities say they investigate whether other people knew or helped Robinson in the murder. They did not say if the partner is among the investigated, but publicly thanked the fact that he shared information.

DNA no rifle
According to prosecutors, Robinson used a bolt rifle to shoot Kirk on his neck inside the campus in Orem, about 64 kilometers south of Salt Lake City. The DNA sample found in the gun trigger corresponded to Robinson, according to Utah County Promoter Jeff Gray. The rifle had belonged to Robinson’s grandfather.
The suspect appeared soon on Tuesday, 16, before a judge, through a prison video conferencing. He lightly waved at times, but generally only looked forward while the judge read the accusations and reported that he would appoint a lawyer to represent him. Since arrest, Robinson’s family has refused to comment on the case.

Kirk was a prominent figure in politics, credited with boosting the Young Republican movement and helping Donald Trump recover the White House in 2024. He gained great popularity through social networks, his podcast and university campus events who presented him by answering questions from a line of deductors who could question him on any topic.
What motivated the attack on Kirk?
The authorities did not reveal a clear reason for the attack, but Gray said Robinson wrote in a text message about Kirk to his partner: “I was tired of his hatred. Some hatred can not negotiate.” The prosecutor said Robinson also wrote in another message that he spent more than a week planning the attack on Kirk. The authorities did not say exactly this planning consisted.

Gray refused to answer if Robinson Mirou Kirk because of his anti-transgender visions. Kirk was shot as he answered a question that addressed mass shootings, armed violence and transgender people. “This is up to a jury to decide,” said Gray. Robinson had a loving relationship with his roommate, which, according to investigators, is transgender.
What did Robinson’s parents say?
Although authorities say that Robinson is not cooperating with investigators, they say relatives and friends have provided information. His mother told investigators that her son became more politically left in the last year and began to support the rights of gay and transgender people, Gray said.

These changes have generated several conversations in the house, especially between Robinson and the father. They had different political views, and Robinson told his partner in a message that their father had become a “Diehard Maga” – an expression used to say that someone is a radical supporter of the Make America Great Again movement (make America great again), popularized by Trump – since the republished was elected.
Robinson’s mother acknowledged him when the authorities released a photo of the suspect, and her parents confronted him – when Robinson said she wanted to kill himself, Gray said. Parents convinced him to meet a family friend, who is a retired former police officer. This person managed to lead Robinson to surrender, said the prosecutor. Robinson was arrested late on Thursday, 11, near St. George, where he grew up.

In an exchange of messages with the partner released by the authorities, Robinson wrote about the plan to recover his rifle in a “disposal point,” but said the area was “isolated.” Later, he sent, “I can get close, but there is a parked car right next door. I think they have already searched this place, but I don’t want to risk it.” The texts cited in the court documents did not include time marking, and it was not clear how long after the Robinson attack was sending the messages.
“To be honest, I expected to keep it a secret until I die of old age. I’m sorry to involve him,” Robinson wrote in another message to his partner. According to Gray, Robinson dismissed his rifle and clothes and asked his roommate to hide evidence.
He was charged with firearm firing a serious crime, with a penalty of even life imprisonment, obstruction of the courts, with a penalty of up to 15 years in prison, and the intimidation of a witness, because he directed his partner to delete the messages exchanged and to remain silent if asked by police, said Gray.
Chat participants at Discord will be investigated
FBI director Kash Patel said on Tuesday that agents are investigating “anyone and everyone” who participated in a game chat room on the discord social platform with Robinson. The room involved “much more” of 20 people, he said during a hearing at the Senate Judiciary Committee in Washington. The accusations presented on Tuesday include two aggravating fans: the practice of various crimes in front of children or near them and the realization of violence based on the accused’s political beliefs.
Kirk, a dominant figure in conservative politics, became Trump’s confidant after founding the Arizona-based Turning Point USA, one of the largest political organizations in the country. He brought young evangelical Christians conservative of politics. In the days of Kirk’s murder, Americans have faced questions about increasing political violence, the profound divisions that led the country to that point and if anything can change.
Despite appeals for greater civility, some who opposed Kirk’s provocative statements about gender, race and politics criticized him after his death. Many Republicans led the effort to punish anyone who, in his view, has dishonored him, causing public and private sector workers to lose his jobs or face other professional consequences.
