Two release of dismissal
Two British citizens, Peter (80) and Barbie (75) Reynolds, detained by the Afghan governmental Taliban Government for more than seven months, landed on Saturday at Heathrow Airport in London. Taliban informed about their release on Friday, writes TASR according to AFP report.
A couple from Qatar came to the United Kingdom, who played an important role in negotiations on their release. According to AFP, Barbie Reynoldson smiled widely when passing through the arrivals, but she did not talk to journalists.
A long -time stay in Afghanistan
The spouses in Afghanistan have lived for more than 18 years. In the central province of Bamiján, they founded and led an educational organization. They remained in the country after 2021, when the Taliban returned to power during the lightning offensive.
The Islamist Taliban movement has never shown why it detained British citizens. A spokesman for the Afghan Foreign Ministry only informed that they had violated local laws. Reynolds’ relatives in Britain have repeatedly called for their release.
According to AP, their release is part of the efforts of Taliban to achieve international recognition of its government. Last week, the US delegation with Taliban discussed the potential exchange of prisoners.
