According to the State Department, the decision is part of a reaction to the conviction of former President Jair Bolsonaro and targets what Washington has classified as a “key network” to support Minister Alexandre de Moraes, rapporteur of the Supreme Court (STF) coup (STF).

In addition to the restriction of visas, the US Treasury has announced new financial sanctions against Alexandre de Moraes, his wife, Viviane Barci, and family -related businesses, based on magnitsky law.
