Donald Trump could win the Nobel Peace Prize, but only on condition that he stops the war in the Gaza Strip. On Tuesday, French President Emmanuel Macron said it in New York, saying that Trump is “the only person who could do something”.
US President Donald Trump could only win the Nobel Peace Prize if he stopped the conflict between Israel and the Palestinian militant Hamas movement in the Gaza band, said French President Emmanuel Macron on TV interview for the BFMTV TV on the edge of the United Nations General Assembly (UN) in New York. TASR received the report from AFP.
Macron: Trump is in the current situation the only person who could do something
“The Nobel Peace Prize is only possible if you stop this conflict,” Macron said in an interview, adding that “there is only one person in the current situation who could do something – the US president”. He argued that the United States of Israel is supplying weapons, “which allow the conflict in Gaza”.
“You have to put pressure on the Israeli government to stop the Gaza conflict to finally liberate the hostages,” Hamas is detained, the French leader continued.
France is ready for retaliatory scenarios by Israel for the recognition of the Palestinian State
France recognized the Palestinian state at the UN General Assembly. Macron, however, stressed in Tuesday’s interview that this state “will be actually created on the day it recognizes Israel”.
There are concerns that Israel could respond to this step by Paris with retaliatory measures, such as the closure of the French Consulate in Jerusalem, explains AFP. “We are ready. We have planned all possible scenarios, which means we will never stay inactive. We are just planning and always defending France’s interests,” Macron said without further details.
