It apparently sounded too good for some to be true. The NEON app promised quick money for something you do anyway: calling your smartphone. You could take up to 30 cents per minute of conversation. You just have to allow the app to record the phone calls. This data should be used for the training of AI models “trustworthy” partners. It came, as many had already guessed: nothing was trustworthy in all of this. After a serious data leak, the app is offline. The transcripts of the conversations, including the telephone numbers of the neon users, can be found on the net. The listening service was apparently operated by a private individual – from his apartment.
