An unprecedented decision of, for weeks the assessment of the company JBS Aves – a member of the conglomerate of brothers Wesley and Joesley Batista – for slave labor. In the middle of this month, Marinho decided to call himself the decision on whether or not to include the company in the call

The case concerns a farm inspection in Rio Grande do Sul, in April this year, suppliers of JBS Aves. According to auditors of the Ministry of Labor, at least ten people were rescued. They were on hours of up to 16 hours a day in degrading conditions.

The possibility of the Minister of Labor to call himself the final decision on punish or not the company exists in the Consolidation of Labor Laws (CLT), but had never been used since 2003, when the “dirty list”, specializing in the subject, appeared.

In an order of 9 September this year, the legal advisory of the Ministry of Labor opined for the “legality and adequacy” of Avocation. The opinion was signed by federal prosecutor Ricardo Augusto Panquetor Nogueira.

“Given the notorious factual and legal complexity, the extreme severity of the alleged infractions and the potential national reach of the legal-economic consequences arising from the final result of the process, it is proper and recommended to exercise avocatory power,” he wrote.

Since the beginning of the Lula administration, JBS representatives have been at at least ten agendas at the Ministry of Labor and Employment. In October 2023, the minister himself visited the premises of the JBS factory in Lins (SP).

In response to Marinho’s intervention, at least nine tax auditors of the Ministry of Labor resigned on the heads of head. The collective renunciation was announced last Thursday (25), as a protest against what auditors consider to be a marine political intervention in their work.

The column sought both JBS and the Ministry of Labor for comments, but there is no answer yet. The space is still open.
