The mayor of Bragança, Paulo Xavier
False information was on the Chamber’s website for 12 years. His correction raised even more suspicions about the path of social democrat Paulo Xavier.
For more than a decade, Paulo Xaviercurrent president of the Chamber of Bragança and candidate for the next municipal elections for the PSD, stated that he has a degree in Safety and Hygiene at Work from the Instituto Superior de Línguas e Administração (ISLA) of Bragança. According to his CV, he completed his degree in 2008, after three years of study and a curricular internship, but the degree in question was only officially created in 2007, according to an investigation carried out this Tuesday.
Confronted by the radio, Paulo Xavier, 66 years old, admitted that the information available on his website, on the Chamber’s website, for 12 years, was incorrect and corrected the completion date of the Senior Security Technician course
Hygiene at Work for 2011. But this raised another question: between 2009 and 2011, a period in which he was supposedly attending his degree, Paulo Xavier held the position of full-time president of the Parish Council of Sé, while, supposedly, he guarantees, he attended a course with classes lasting 20 to 30 hours a week.
The mandatory 200-hour internship was supposedly completed at the parish council itself in just 17 days, for a total of 127.5 hours. The remaining hours of the internship are not known, but the mayor will have received an assessment of 19 out of 20.
CESPU, the entity responsible for the course, did not provide an attendance map or clarify any commercial relations with the Bragança Chamber, despite Rádio Regional saying it had “irrefutable documentary proof” of business between CESPU, under the vice-director of José Joaquim Cordeiro Tavares, and the Bragança Municipal Chamber
The also tried to contact the mayor, but the president’s office informed that Paulo Xavier would be out of the municipality until October 13th.
