World leaders celebrate agreement between Israel and Hamas announced by Trump

Global leaders celebrated this Thursday (9) the ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas, as the “first phase” of a peace plan for the Gaza Strip. The pact also provides for the release of Israeli hostages in exchange for Palestinian prisoners.

The secretary-general of the United Nations (UN), António Guterres, stated that the entity will support the implementation of the agreement and the reinforcement of humanitarian aid to the Palestinians.

Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney said he was “relieved” by the imminent release of the hostages and said “peace finally seems possible.”

Australia’s Prime Minister Anthony Albanese called the agreement a “ray of light”, while Malaysia’s Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim declared that the pact brings “a spark of hope after months of suffering and devastation”.

Japan’s Chief of Staff, Yoshimasa Hayashi, said the country “welcomes” the agreement and considers it “an important step towards reducing tensions and a two-state solution.”

New Zealand Chancellor Winston Peters called the pact “a positive first step towards ending the suffering of Israelis and Palestinians”.

Argentine President Javier Milei said he will nominate Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize, in recognition of his “extraordinary contribution to international peace.”
