The Scientific Police of the state of São Paulo created one on alcoholic beverages, amid the crisis generated by the increase in cases of poisoning with the substance.
The announcement was made by , this Thursday (9). “This protocol has already been made available to other states of the federation, and this will help save lives in Brazil”, he stated.
The rules were drawn up following international standards, according to the Scientific Police. Testing takes place in several stages and is done by sampling bottles, with 99% reliability.
The first step is document copying, checking the seal, seals, packaging and label of the bottles, with results published in less than a day to determine the potential forgery.
Then, the drink is sent to the chemistry center, with examination using portable equipment called Raman that identifies adulteration with electromagnetic radiation, without the need to open the bottle.
Subsequently, gas chromatography is carried out, which separates the elements of the drink and shows the percentage of methanol and other substances contained in the liquid.
The methanol crisis has already left the state of São Paulo. The causes of contamination are still being investigated.
