During a joint operation by the Civil and Military police of Rio de Janeiro, this Friday (10), agents found an urn in the Muzema community, in Itanhangáin the Southwest Zone of the capital Fluminense.
In a press conference, Civil Police Secretary Felipe Curi explained that the ballot box was used for drug traffickers to avoid arrest.
“People extorted for drug trafficking had to put up the money that the criminal faction charged, which shows that the criminals changed the way they charged and started not exposing themselves,” he stated.

The communities located in this area were historically commanded by militiamen, but this has changed with the territorial expansion of the Red Command.
“There is no difference between drug trafficking and the militia. They commit the same crimes. So that they (criminals) are no longer exposed, they use the ballot box, leaving it there and people go there and put the money in. They are theoretically safer, but the investigation work identified this ballot box”, says Felipe Curi.

Ygor Freitas de Andrade, known as Matuê, is also suspected of shooting and killing the Core agent, the elite troop of the Rio Civil Police, José Antônio Lourenço, in May this year.
He also allegedly took part in a clash in August that left six people dead. There were three outstanding arrest warrants against Matuê.
Two other suspects, believed to be the drug dealer’s security guards, also died in a confrontation with the police.
