Sánchez confirms the purchase of weapons from the US and responds to Trump that Spain “is a reliable country”
The President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, has indicated that the purchase of weapons from the United States “is a NATO initiative from a few weeks ago” and “Spain, which is a country committed to the Atlantic Alliance, and to the defense and support of Ukraine” is going to join the program. It was not the only time that Sánchez has affirmed the military commitment to the military alliance. He has also pointed out that since he has been president, Spain has increased its military spending. “We have fulfilled our capabilities, something that the PP did not do.”
Sánchez has assured that Spain “is a reliable country, that complies with its commitments”, after last night Trump once again attacked Spain for not increasing military spending. “President Trump knows that since I have been President of the Government of Spain, we are not only fulfilling our obligations and our capabilities today, but we have also complied with non-compliance that other administrations, in this case the PP, made when they committed to 2%,” he said before going to the European Council in Brussels. “In 2017, what we found was a Spain that only dedicated 0.9% of its GDP to the defense budget. We are a reliable country, we are a country that fulfills our commitments,” he reiterated.
