Faro, Évora, Setúbal and Beja are already under threat of heavy showers and thunderstorms throughout this Monday.

Mainland Portugal is practically divided in two, when it comes to the weather forecast for today, Monday.

It’s as if there were two heavens, shown by the Portuguese Institute of Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA): from Lisbon/Portalegre upwards (i.e. Norte e Center) the sky will be slightly cloudy or clean; from there down (On the of the country) the sky must be very cloudy, with rain.

The districts of Faro, Évora, Setúbal and Beja will already be under yellow warning given the forecast of showers, sometimes heavy and accompanied by thunderstorms between 12:00 and 21:00.

But tomorrow, Tuesday, all districts of mainland Portugal will be under yellow warning – between 12:00 and 9:00 pm – due to the forecast of rain, sometimes forte and accompanied by thunderstorm, informed IPMA.

Also due to heavy and persistent rain and the possibility of thunderstorms, the south coast and mountainous regions of the island of Madeira they will be under yellow warning until 12:00 today.

IPMA also issued a yellow warning of strong wind with gusts of up to 75 kilometers per hour for the south coast of Madeira and up to 100 kilometers per hour for mountainous regions between 09:00 and 18:00 on Tuesday.

For the core group of Azores (S. Jorge, Faial, Pico, Terceira and Graciosa), the IPMA issued a yellow warning until 09:00 today also due to forecasts of rain, sometimes heavy and accompanied by thunderstorms.

The eastern group (São Miguel and Santa Maria) is under yellow warning due to heavy rain until 00:00 on Tuesday.

The yellow warning, the least serious on a scale of three, is issued whenever there is a risk situation for certain activities depending on the weather situation.

A rain should persist throughout the territory of mainland Portugal until the weekend.
