When the blueberry leaves turn yellow, supply them with this basic element

Even if they have fruited nicely or are set, suddenly their leaves turn yellow. And you are afraid of losing not only the crop, but also the whole plant. How to heal a blueberry again? “There can be more than one reason for yellowing,” gardener Vlastimil Šindelář explains in the iReceptář podcast consultation.

And then, of course, we want the plant to thrive. “The foundation is in the soil and enough minerals,” says gardener Vlastimil Šindelář.

Good soil

It is the alpha and omega for blueberries. The forest ones really need a lot of acid, just like the wild gooseberries. “Canadian blueberries, which appear more often in gardens, but do not require so much acidic soil,” explains the expert.

According to them, what plants lack much more often is enough calcium. “You can add it easily using bitter salt,” adds Vlastimil Šindelář. Or he recommends an even simpler ingredient that is always on hand. Plain eggshells. “Crush them really finely and then just lightly work them into the soil around the blueberry,” he adds.

Just a little bit

According to the gardener, the cause of the yellowing is probably elsewhere. “What blueberries really often lack is iron,” explains Šindelář. And most of the time, this deficiency manifests itself in the yellowing of the leaves. Help is easy – get a fertilizer with its content, often specified. And then just rejoice in the harvest.
