Anvisa approves oral medicine for breast cancer in cases without surgery

The National Health Surveillance Agency (Anvisa) published this week the record of Inluriyo medicine (inlunestrant tosylate), indicated for adults with breast cancer locally advanced, cannot be removed by surgery, or has spread to other parts of the body and who was previously treated with endocrine therapy.

In a note, the agency detailed that this type of tumor has the following characteristics: it is positive for estrogen receptor (ER+), negative for human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2-) and has a mutation in estrogen receptor 1 (ESR1m).

“The medicine, developed by Eli Lilly do Brasil Ltda., is oral and indicated as monotherapy.”

According to Anvisa, breast cancer figures as the malignant neoplasm with the highest incidence among women. In Brazil, data from the National Cancer Institute (Inca) indicate that, in the period between 2023 and 2025, 73,610 cases of the disease. The number represents 30.1% of the total number of cancers in women.
