PSOL and PT disagree on food security project – 12/06/2024 – Panel

The PSOL and PSOL benches in the City Council of , allied parties in last October’s election, differed in the vote on a management bill (MDB) that deals with food security.

PSOL voted against and ended up being the target of attacks from Nunes’ base. The PT remained critical of the project, but said that some suggestions were incorporated into the final version and recognized progress, hence the vote in favor.

The proposal was approved with 42 votes in favor and 4 against, in the session on Tuesday (3), followed by approval by the Executive.

“It’s a project that’s misleading, that looks good, but it’s not. It’s a setback in relation to the city hall’s food sovereignty policy,” said Silvia from Bancada Feminista (PSOL), during a speech at the podium.

“Before, foods were specified. For example: ‘organic foods from small rural producers’. Now it has become generalized, only ‘foodstuffs’ are included. In other words, it could be , she said.

The leader of the PT bench, Senival Moura, explained that the project “still has many gaps, but it has evolved”.

“We wanted much more, but that’s what we have for today. Based on the advances that were presented in the substitute, which accepted suggestions from the PT bench, I don’t see any problem in voting in favor”, said the PT member, whose stance was praised by the Nunes base.

The divergence pointed out by the leader of the Nunes government at Casa, Fábio Riva (MDB).

“I want to regret the stance of PSOL, which once again votes against. But I also want to record a responsible opposition. The PT will vote in favor, because it helped to contribute. PT was also in government and knows how difficult implementation is of public policies”, he said.
