Experts explain the objectives of egg freezing to Dr. Kalil

Egg freezing represents an important alternative for women who wish to preserve their fertility. In an interview with CNN Vital SignsMatheus Gröner, a urologist specializing in human reproduction at Unifesp, details that “through an ovarian stimulation process, it is possible to capture and freeze eggs, which can be used later when the woman wishes to have children.”

One of them is that frozen eggs do not lose quality over time and can remain stored for decades. This aspect is particularly relevant considering that the quality of eggs naturally decreases with advancing age.

“That’s why it’s important to have egg freezing as an arsenal in a woman’s reproductive planning,” says the expert.

In terms of fertility, there is a significant difference between men and women. Eduardo Motta, associate professor at the Department of Gynecology at Unifesp, explains that “while men maintain continuous sperm production throughout their lives, women are born with a limited quantity of eggs.” As the years go by, the best quality eggs are naturally consumed.

Freezing then emerges as an alternative to minimize the effects of time on female fertility.

Despite technological advances in the area of assisted reproduction, Motta highlights the importance of not postponing indefinitely. “It’s an attempt to preserve, but people should take into account not postponing their reproductive desire indefinitely, imagining that science will always provide an answer”, he concludes.
