Return to the scene? Former President Obama strongly supported the Democrats before the key elections

Former US President Barack Obama took part in pre-election events on Saturday, where he supported the candidates Democratic Party. Americans in the states of Virginia and New Jersey will elect governors and in many cities on Tuesday – including closely watched New York – mayoral elections will take place. TASR informs about it according to the report of the AFP agency.

Obama, who remains an influential figure in the Democratic Party, he took the stage to thunderous applause in Virginia and later in New Jersey. He noted that Americans dissatisfied with rising inflation, the cost of living and housing prices were in last year’s presidential election “willing to take a risk” and vote for a candidate like Donald Trump who promised to solve these problems.

“Has any of this improved? Is the economy working better for you? Because it sure is working better for Trump and his family.” Obama told the assembled crowd. “For ordinary families, costs have not gone down, they have gone up, thanks to this chaotic customs policy,” emphasized the ex-president, referring to the import tariffs that Trump imposed on various countries.

Until this weekend, Obama had not played a prominent role in the campaign. On Saturday, however, he supported two female candidates in the gubernatorial elections – former congresswoman Abigail Spanberger of Virginia and current member of the House of Representatives Mikie Sherrill of New Jersey.

Spanberger has a lead of nine percentage points over her Republican opponent, according to the average of public opinion pollsLt. Gov. Winsome Earle-Sears, while Sherrill has a closer battle with businessman Jack Ciattarelli.

Over the weekend, Obama also supported the Democratic candidate and favorite for the post of mayor of New York Zohrana Mamdanihowith whom he was on the phone.
