Most cans of tuna in the supermarket don’t contain tuna, but rather bonito, a small tuna relative from the tuna and mackerel family. The fact that “tuna” is still allowed to appear on the front of the cans is probably also due to the fact that fish names are notoriously imprecise and vary from place to place. The clear Latin name always has to be listed at the back of the ingredients, in the case of bonito Katsuwonus pelamis.1
