According to Pakistani Information Minister Atullah Tarar, the ceasefire will end on Wednesday, April 22 at 04:50 local time, which corresponds to 01:50 CET.
Pakistan announced on Tuesday that the two-week ceasefire between Tehran and Washington will expire on Wednesday night and not on Thursday night, as announced by US President Donald Trump. The same was subsequently confirmed by the Iranian state television, reports TASR according to the AFP agency.
“The ceasefire will end on April 22 at 04:50 Pakistan time (01:50 CEST),” Pakistan’s Information Minister Atullah Tarar wrote on the X platform.
Time discrepancy around the ceasefire
Iranian state television said the ceasefire with the United States would expire at 03:30 Tehran time (02:00 CEST) on Wednesday. According to AFP, this figure corresponds to the time when the 14-day ceasefire came into effect on April 8. The ceasefire was therefore expected to end on Tuesday night.
In comments to Bloomberg, Trump previously claimed that this would happen a day later, on Wednesday, April 22 at 8:00 p.m. EST (Thursday 2:00 a.m. CEST).
Confusion about peace negotiations
Uncertainty about the end of the ceasefire is also accompanied by uncertainty about the second round of peace negotiations between Iran and the USA. Pakistan’s Information Minister Tarar announced on Tuesday that Islamabad has still not received a formal response from Tehran on whether it will send its delegation to the talks.
Reuters previously reported that the next round of talks is “scheduled for tomorrow (Wednesday)”.
Negotiations in Islamabad without conclusion
The delegations of both countries met in Islamabad for the first time on April 11. The Iranian team led by Speaker of Parliament Mohammad Baker Kalibaf and the American delegation led by Vice President JD Vance completed several rounds of negotiations. However, both parties subsequently stated that due to several disagreements, they failed to reach an agreement on a long-term settlement of the conflict.
The White House subsequently confirmed that Vance was still in Washington at noon on Tuesday. “There are other political meetings in the White House that the vice president will attend,” his representative said in a statement to AFP shortly after 7:00 p.m. CET.
