Several Muslim countries have demanded this Monday Israelafter a meeting in Istanbul, that the Prime Minister’s Government Benjamin Netanyahu “stop sabotaging the ceasefire in Gaza” and end “its constant attacks” against the Strip.
In this Monday’s meeting, the foreign ministers of the Muslim countries that, in September, met with the American president, Donald Trump in New York before the signing of the ceasefire in Gaza. These countries are Türkiye —whose president, Recep Tayyip Erdoganwas placed next to, in a position of honor, the billionaire tycoon at that meeting— United Arab Emirates, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, Qatar and Indonesia.
“Israel continue with your occupation [de Gaza] without pause. It seems that Hamas is truly determined to stay in the agreement. But we all know that the work that Israel does and its antecedents, in this sense, are very poor”the Turkish president said this Monday in a speech in which he accused Tel Aviv to break the ceasefire negotiated by Trump in Sharm al Sheij last month.
“We are facing an Administration that has killed more than 200 people since the ceasefire agreement, hiding behind various excuses while also continuing their attacks and occupation in West Bank”Erdogan said.
“Israel is regularly violating the ceasefire and is preventing humanitarian aid reach your destination. We have now reached a crucial point in the implementation of the agreement, and all the countries that participated in this Monday’s meeting have a common vision. We do not want the genocide start again in Gaza. We want the ceasefire to continue, and we want there to be concrete steps to reach a permanent peace. We are all prepared to assume our responsibilities in this process,” he assured the press, after the meeting in the great Turkish metropolis, the foreign minister from the country Anatolia, Hakan Fidan.
Boots on the ground
One of the biggest points of tension between Türkiye and Israel is Ankara’s insistence—with the approval of Washington– about what turkish soldiers are part of the hypothetical international force future that must maintain the security of Gaza, once Hamas is supposedly disarmed and removed from the strip governmentsomething that the ceasefire agreement achieved by Trump does not clarify.
Tel Aviv has been against the Turkish presence, a country that currently has bad relationships with Israel, especially since October 7 and Hamas attacks against the south of the Jewish State.
“This international stability force It is being discussed in many meetings. We consider that there should be legitimation and a resolution in this regard by the Security Council of United Nations. There are already movements in this regard, but what we have discussed is that depending on the content and task of this force, then we will see if we will send our troops or not,” Fidan said.
